Larry Hope
Rest in Heaven - September 12, 2021
Larry served in several positions while with The Navigators for 11 years. He moved from Chicago to San Francisco as the first I:58 minister in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
Larry partnered with Calvary Street Ministry serving the houseless in downtown San Francisco. Here is a quote from his time with Calvary Street Ministry:
"We reach out to them with songs of praise, food and hygiene kits, but our greatest weapon is prayer and encouragment to the houseless and an invitation to walk with God. Rain or shine, cold or windy, we're right there in the center of the problems houseless people deal with because we have the right solution which is Jesus Christ!"
Stories from San Francisco/Bayview
To my surprise, I saw Diego show up at the grand opening of the Sueños Youth Center.
“I just wanted to do better, I didn’t want to hurt anybody anymore. I didn’t want to hurt myself anymore.”
The minute the van door closes and we're off, their little minds clear of the worry they were carrying and those giggly smiles return.
If we imagine residents of a neighborhood resourced and empowered to engage in communal life, we must also imagine the physical, political and economic structures that allow them to do so.
“It's like everything you defined yourself by in the outside world is taken away from you…”
This is a man society had forgotten. And yet, as he continued talking, the light of God’s Kingdom became evident in his heart.
Tim used the gifts he has been given and now can impact the youth more effectively than we ever could.
I didn't expect to become good friends with Mikey, but it's clear that God has put him in my life. His joy is a ministry of God's grace to me.
Most of the men and women involved in Breaking Ground are ex-offenders. Breaking Ground gives them a chance to change the direction of their lives through spiritual mentoring, education, and job opportunities.
